An idea born to
take shape

So, what's the story?

After many years living and style
watching in San Francisco, and seeing
the flip-flop and sneaker epidemic
reach critical proportions, we arrived
at the idea of Rothy’s. It was our wives’
insistence on a “go to” shoe that
delivers style and comfort that turned
that idea into a beautiful reality.

Create an alternative, versatile shoe:
one with the ease of a sneaker
but with the polish of a dress shoe.
And do it with low-waste, low-
impact materials, hand-assembled
for high quality and durability.

Earth-friendly, Carbon-Free Rubber Sole

A wardrobe game changer.

Modern, classic style. A wardrobe staple that goes with
pretty much everything. Lightweight
comfort. A shoe you’d be happy
to keep on all day. In Rothy’s, style,
comfort and versatility coexist.
That’s something you don’t see every
day in fashion.

Soft and practical. There’s a comfort that comes
from not having shoes on at all.
We’re proud to say that we (finally)
figured out how recycled plastic
water bottles can be transformed
into a comfortable knitted shoe
that fits like a glove and is soft like a
sock. So wear them, walk in them,
knock them about. Then throw
your Rothy’s in the wash and let
them air dry.

Everyday luxury. We’re not ashamed to say there’s
something a little luxurious about
Rothy’s. From the sophisticated
patterns of the 3D knit upper, to the
embroidered logo monogrammed
into the plush removable insole.
It’s attainable luxury not untouchable
fashion; and it works as well at
a day in the office as it does when
you’re playing tourist.

Our planet. The question we asked was, can we make this sophisticated stylish product in a different way? With less waste and more responsible materials? Done and done (and enormously proud). Even our delivery packaging is designed for minimal, low-waste use of materials. We repurpose the shoe bag for other uses—like carrying sunscreen to the beach, or protecting damp gym clothes after a great spin class.

Our favorite pair.

STEPHEN HAWTHORNTHWAITE

Founder and CEO Stephen, or “Hawthy” as he’s known around here, has always
opted for the road less traveled (or at least the less obvious).
Upon graduation from law school, he traded in his
hard-earned degree for a career in investment banking and
technology mergers and acquisitions. Making his way from
New York to San Francisco, this well-dressed Southern
gentleman turned his attention to rapidly growing consumer
technologies, helping to shape the industry as we know it
today. Happily merging his business acumen with a passion
for fashion and design, Stephen was thrilled to step in and run
the day-to-day as Rothy’s CEO. His wife Erin and daughter
Bladen are unrelenting Rothy’s product testers and living
proof that our shoes can go the distance. His teenage son
Carter, on the other hand, is still trying to wrap his head
around his dad’s choice of making ladies footwear.

ROTH MARTIN

Founder and Chief Creative Officer Though about as native San Franciscan as they come,
hoodies and hipster wear never enter Roth’s fashion vocabulary.
A form and function obsessed designer, he tends toward a clean
modern aesthetic. Though he’s traded commodities and run
operations at a biotech start-up, Rothy is most happy designing
prototypes for future Rothy’s silhouettes and experimenting
with repurposed materials. His wife Emily and four kids are eager
Rothy’s sounding boards and enthusiastic fit models.
As cofounder at Hedge Gallery and FOG Art + Design Fair,
its easy to see how his business savvy and keen eye have led
him into refreshingly unchartered design territory. Rothy’s
couldn’t be a better breeding ground for Roth’s passion and tireless desire to create.
