All aboard with EXXpedition.

Rothy’s is all about supporting fearless women—especially those working towards sustainable solutions. That’s why we teamed up with female-led non-profit EXXpedition as an official sponsor of the first leg of their 2-Year Round the World journey.

EXXpedition (that’s two XXs for female chromosomes) leads all-women ocean research trips which investigate causes of—and solutions to—ocean plastic pollution. Ladies from all over the world, including some of whom have never sailed before, join on voyages to span the oceans and study plastic waste. Their work provides important scientific proof regarding the impact of plastic on our planet, and it helps shape environmental policies.

Why only women? For one, women are underrepresented in the sciences. So EXXpedition hopes to involve and inspire more women to enter the field. And another big reason: there’s a growing body of evidence that suggests environmental plastics hurt women’s health. In fact, one EXXpedition enthusiast said “I had my blood tested, and of 39 chemicals we test for, I had 29 of them inside my body.”

At Rothy’s, we are thrilled to support our sailing sisters by providing washable, comfortable footwear for the trip. Emily Penn, co-founder of EXXpedition and leader of the Round the World trip, echoes our thoughts on Rothy’s and EXXpedition partnering up.

"We're thrilled to work with Rothy's, a partner that is closing the loop on plastic and taking an innovative approach to sustainability across their entire supply chain. Whether we are sailing out to sea or back on land, the EXXpedition crew looks both stylish and comfortable while helping protect our oceans in their Rothy's shoes."

It’s smooth sailing with #rothysinthewild on deck.
