2019 in review.

The 2020s are almost here. And we have a feeling the new decade is going to be a roaring good time. But as we journey forth, we want to take a moment to reflect on the highlights of 2019. We also want to give a round of applause to our wonderful community (aka you!) who helped to make this year one for the books.

Let’s dive into all of the exciting moments from the past year.

193 styles. 1 material. 1 silhouette.

We launched quite a lot of newness this year. In fact, we introduced 193 styles. And we debuted our latest material, merino wool. These luxe styles are made from a blend of soft wool and our signature thread spun from repurposed plastic water bottles. Plus, we added a cool-weather essential, The Chelsea, to our lineup. Last but not least, we expanded our offering to size 5-13—including half sizes.

15,346 #rothysinthewild photos.

We may be partial, but our community on social media is the best there is. This year, you snapped more than 15,000 #rothysinthewild pictures—all we can say is, wow! We simply love to see how you style your Rothy’s. Here’s to many more shoefies in 2020.

Millions of water bottles repurposed to date.

Every minute, one million water bottles are sold globally. And unfortunately, most of the world’s plastic does not get recycled. By knitting the uppers of our shoes from water bottles, we repurpose millions of bottles annually and turn them into stylish eco friendly shoes

117 employees in San Francisco. 906 employees in Dongguan, China.

At Rothy’s, we take a whole brand approach to sustainability. From our materials to the way we treat our people, we consider sustainability every step of the way. This year, we grew quite a bit, and we’re excited to add more members to our global team in 2020.

120 couples married after meeting at the Rothy's Workshop.

Being sustainable means more than just using recycled materials in our products. And we consider all of our employees to be part of the family. In fact, quite a few couples have married after meeting at our workshop in Dongguan, China.

Our most popular style: The Point in Black Solid.

We love all of our styles and colors equally—after all, they are each unique in their own way. But we do want to take a moment to recognize The Point in Black Solid. This style is the go-to pair you can always count on, they’re there when you need a little pick me up and they’re sure to look good with any ensemble. Give it up for classic black.

50,000 verified teachers in our teacher program.

It’s no secret we love teachers here at Rothy’s. Through our program, we support all the incredible things educators accomplish by offering 20% off on select styles so they can teach in comfort and style.

3 incredible non-profit organizations supported.

This October, we honor women impacted by breast cancer with a $50,000 donation to BCRF and by gifting 3,840 limited edition, pink shoes for survivors, fighters and supporters. And to celebrate the anniversary of our Fillmore store and Pride Month, we partnered with StartOut, a non-profit that connects and educates LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs to empower great leaders and businesses. And for World Oceans Day, we joined forces with female-led non-profit, EXXpedition, as an official sponsor of the first leg of their 2-Year Round the World journey.

1 store opened in Washington D.C.

Rothy’s has arrived on the east coast! We opened our first official location on the eastern seaboard in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. We’re so excited to connect with our growing community in the capital.

10 office pooches that come to work daily.

Our wonderfully diverse team is made up of people from many backgrounds. And our pup population is equally as varied. We have big dogs, small dogs and some in-between dogs. With pooches aplenty, there’s lots of daily excitement at our HQ.

44,952 votes cast in our Vote It Back campaigns.

It’s a thrill to connect with our community (aka you!) through our Vote It Back program. And you took to the polls in record numbers. This year, winning votes were cast for The Point in Midnight Metallic, The Point in Inverse Stripe and our first kids’ shoe to be made in adult sizes, The Sneaker in Bubblegum.

2 Collaborations: Pete Oswald and Marta Ferri.

Collaborations are a fun way for us to create and test new things. We love pairing up with special partners to bring unique creations to life. First, we partnered with acclaimed illustrator (and father of three) Pete Oswald to create some delightful kids sneakers. Then we connected with renowned Italian designer Marta Ferri to create two timeless square-toed flats silhouettes in our newest material, merino wool. After all, there’s really nothing better than making shoes with friends.

2019 was a year of many wonderful moments and special firsts. We couldn’t be more excited for what 2020 holds. But for now, that’s all folks!
